A cosmopolitan and bohemian character, well known within the Modernista movement, he lived for long periods in Paris where he came into contact with Positivist currents whose work he disseminated in Catalonia. He also travelled in Asia and Africa.
Very active politically, he was linked to Republican ideology and also took part in the Catalanist Congress of 1880. As a journalist, he contributed to several magazines such as L'Esquella de la Torratxa and, especially, Joventut.
