The Museo Art Nouveau y Art Déco - Casa Lis has added new pieces to its collections, thereby helping to increase and improve the works that are conserved and displayed in Casa Lis. The institution has acquired through various auctions the painting Girl with Lantern by Barcelona artist Lluís Graner, an additional oil painting by Federico Beltrán Massés entitled Gypsy Couple, a terracotta figure in the form of a woman's bust made in 1905, another sculpture with a bronze and onyx clock designed by Josef Lorenzl, considered to be one of the most outstanding Art Deco sculptors, and a mouth-blown glass designed by Josef Hoffmann around 1920.
Casa Lis is a small city mansion that the owner of a major tanning factory, Miguel de Lis, commissioned to the architect Joaquín de Vargas y Aguirre. The house was completed in 1906 and is now home to the Museo Art Nouveau y Art Déco. This striking building represents one of the few examples of Modernista architecture to be found in Salamanca.
