This year the CRM Society achieves a remarkable landmark in celebrating 40 years of protecting Charles Rennie Mackintosh´s unique architectural heritage.

On this occasion, the Society has planned a number of special events throughout the year.

All the actions will take place at the Mackintosh Church except where indicated. The provisional programme is listed below.

Currently there is a Mackintosh Design Competition for students and staff of GSA Silversmithing + Jewellery to produce a contemporary motif as part of our 40th anniversary. The competition will be judged in February with a planned exhibition in March.

The first international congress fully devoted to the Art Nouveau style will be held in Barcelona from 26 to 29 June 2013. This congress, an activity of the Art Nouveau European Route association, is organised by the Barcelona City Council on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Art Nouveau magazine coupDefouet.
This scientific encounter will draw together professionals in art history, architecture, the applied and decorative arts, and heritage management, as well as art lovers in general, to explore future trends and challenges in Art Nouveau heritage in a context of transnational exchange.
The Scientific Committee is coordinated by the University of Barcelona Art department in the supervision of the content to be presented at the Congress within the established theme strands.
The sessions of the coupDefouet International Congress will take place at the University and also at Antoni Gaudí´s famous Casa Milà-La Pedrera building. Exclusive cultural activities and heritage visits will also be offered to attendees.

A spectacular video of the Sagrada Família has just been published on the Internet, showing previously unseen images of this basilica designed by AntoniGaudí. The video was recorded with the aid of a new model of microcopter - a tiny, unmanned helicopter with eight rotor blades - to which a camera was fitted to film the church from unprecedented viewpoints. Using a system of three axes to control movement, the camera can also record images using the time-lapse technique, showing in mere seconds how light in the temple changes throughout the day.

The images in this video were taken in April 2012 by Albert Castaño and Luis Caldevilla.

On the event of its third anniversary, the Museu del Modernisme Català is inaugurating its new permanent collection on 14 March. In its resolve to continue promoting and disseminating Catalan Modernisme, the museum has added almost thirty new works by the most significant artists in our cultural legacy.

Among the recent additions, highlights include two drawings in charcoal and pastel by Ramon Casas, one of which is a portrait of his model, lover and wife Júlia Peraire, in which the fashion tastes of the early twentieth century predominate. Also exhibited is the escritoire from the long-gone Casa Trinxet, a building designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch (located at Còrsega, 268, on Balmes corner, next to the railway line linking Barcelona and Sarrià). Its Solomonic-styled legs are striking, matching as they do the same style of columns in the house´s entrance hall and sitting room.

One of Gaspar Homar´s remarkable pieces is the spectacular, large umbrella stand with magnificently worked marquetry that decorates most of this piece of entrance hall furniture. Another skilled cabinetmaker and decorator, Joan Busquets, is the creator of a settle bench of exquisite refinement, which furnished the study of the famous photographer Pau Audouard, occupying the ground floor of Casa Lleó Morera in Passeig de Gràcia (today the Loewe store).

Another notable piece of artwork is the poster for the 3a Exposició internacional de Belles Arts de 1896 (3rd International Fine Arts Exhibition, 1896) by Alexandre de Riquer. It is of large dimensions and considered to be the first Modernista poster. Closing this selection of works is the delicate set of silver cups from the workshop of the Masriera brothers, the result of exact and meticulous silversmithing.
