The regional government of the Balearic Islands managers a major Modernista heritage in which top local artists like Gaspar Bennazar i Moner, Jaume Aleñà i Guinart, Guillem Reynés i Font, Francesc Roca i Simó and Lluís Forteza-Rey participated with their work. But the islands' contacts with Catalonia also brought over such renowned architects as Antoni Gaudí, Lluís Domènech i Montaner and, above all, Joan Rubió i Bellver.

There are three important Modernista centres on the island of Mallorca: the city of Palma, the town of Sóller and the Ntra. Sra. de Lluch Sanctuary. On the island of Menorca, Modernista works can be seen in Maó and Ciutadella and there are many examples of popular work in Ibiza. Recent studies have stressed the decorative and ornamental elements of Balearic Modernisme and, of all the production industries located there, the ceramic factory in La Roqueta must be highlighted because of its widespread distribution. The Balearic Island government is responsible for protecting and promoting this heritage through its respective departments.
