Ramon Casas, Retrat de Manuel Feliu (Portrait of Manuel Feliu) (© MNAC. Barcelona. Calveras, Mérida, Sagristà)

He studied at La Llotja, the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, and very soon went to Paris to further his training. However he always stayed in contact with the Catalan artistic movement, as he continued to put on exhibitions at Sala Parés (Petritxol, 5) and his pictures were reproduced in various Catalan magazines.

At first, his works dealt with marginal subjects, especially poverty and squalor, but he gradually evolved towards genre painting and female figures. His realist painting is often regarded as being close to that of the painter R. Casas.

He enjoyed a great deal of prestige as a poster designer and sketcher. He was a member of the Artistic and Literary Society, which grouped together artists linked to Sala Parés.
