Fabra i Fontanills, Camil (first marquis of Alella)

Barcelona 1833 - 1902

12 Developer

An industrialist and patron of the arts, in 1901 he donated money to the Barcelona Royal Academy of the Sciences and the Arts for an astronomical, meteorological and seismic observatory, designed by the meteorologist Eduard Fontserè and the architect J. Domènech i Estapà, to be built on Tibidabo mountain in Barcelona. Thanks to another donation by the Barcelona Provincial Council, work eventually began in 1902 and the Modernista-style building was inaugurated with the name of Observatori Fabra in 1904 (Carretera de l'Observatori, s/n).
