Roviralta i Alemany, Josep M.

Barcelona 1880 - Biarritz 1960

391112 Writer, illustrator, painter, art critic and industrialist

He was a versatile man: poet, art critic, illustrator and art collector.

He was the promoter, illustrator and editor of the magazine Luz, through which he supported Symbolist theories. As an illustrator, he also worked for Revista Gràfica. He contributed to the newspaper El Poble Català as an art critic. He was the author of the poem Boires baixes (Low-lying Mists, 1902), set to music by E. Granados and also illustrated by L. Bonnín, which became extremely popular.

He pursued his artistic career during the Modernista period. When this style started to wane and make way for new ideas, he gave up art for industry and business, a domain in which he built up a big reputation.
