He qualified as an architect in Barcelona in 1891 and worked in Seville, Alicante and Huesca, where he was the municipal architect. His main building in Huesca was the Círculo Oscense (1901-1904, although he stopped directing the work himself in 1902; Plaza Navarra, 4). The construction is a mixture of a 15th century medieval French castle and an 18th century palace, with European Art Nouveau features, in which Bonells displayed the influence of the styles of A. Gaudí and L. Domènech i Montaner.
